🔗 Share this article The network's Premier New Show of This Year Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3. In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit. A Major Commitment In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters. "My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer." A President's Endorsement In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat style. "All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Different Kind of Comedy Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence. At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises. “There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.” The Path Forward With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan. The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
