New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities released security footage Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
